A week ago we brought home a new cat, a neutered male about a year old. We already have a neutered male about 4 or 5. The first two days we kept them separated with a territory for each having food, water, a litter box, and toys, and would let them sniff each other through the door as well as bringing in towels that smelled like the other cat. After that we switched their rooms and our older cat was scared but got used to it. Then we let them see each other through a crack in the door and have since been letting them have supervised time together the last two days. At first our older one was just bullying the new cat but our new cat has since started fighting back. Now they seem to be not as completely interested in one another but sometimes they will tussle or follow each other around and cat slap at each other without actually touching. My older cat will sometimes bite the neck of the new cat but the new cat will do it right back and they never draw blood or hiss or growl or have poofy tails. I’m starting to wonder if maybe they are playing? I would be surprised because they just met but when we separate them again after a little while they meow at each other through the door. What do you think? Thank you!
