Toddler/Cat relations 🐈

I have a cat, Sam, who is a couple of months shy of six years old, had her since two weeks (don't bother care-trolling that point, I'll go straight to block).

I've been in and out of hospital a lot over the last couple of years, so I decided to get cat #2 to keep her company. Jasper, M4, is a relatively recent shelter adoption.

The two cats are nuts about each other, deffo best friends, so it was the right call. Both cats seem pretty happy.

I also have an 18-month toddler. Like most toddlers, the first thing he wanted to do once mobile was grab tails and fur and whiskers.

Well, I haven't let him. I've encouraged interaction, for sure, but corrected him when he grabs and shown him how to stroke them instead. Unfortunately the cats have become wary of him anyway, due to earlier interactions (I always allowed them to remove themselves if they weren't happy, no "forced cuddles").

Well, yesterday I noticed that Dam wasn't running from toddler like usual, and for his part he'd look at her, wave, and then go about his business without bothering her.

And then today I was sitting on the couch having cuddles with toddler when Jasper approached us, jumped onto toddler's lap, and made himself comfortable.

Toddler, for his part, began to massage Jasper's shoulders and hip. Jasper loved it! He put his chin up, eyes closed, and started purring and kneading.

A few minutes later toddler gently leaned over and rested his head on Jasper's ribs, and Jasper rested his head on his front paws.

Cat/toddler relations are coming along nicely 😊
