Vet proposing to put down pet 7 times!

It's actually kind of rant.

My cat lost some weight, so I took her to vet. I paid for ridiculous amount of tests, save biopsy and ultrasound.

The diagnosis was: bad teeth. She had a procedure beginning of April and this is where all goes to s***.

She has been given Convenia - long release antibiotic (as advised by vet and consented to by me), but vet never told me that there are not so rare (4-6% of patients!) and VERY dangerous side effects of this drug, as well that it stays in the system 60 days (I was told 14 days). I was not informed either that this drug is NOT recommended for dental treatment at all! I know this only because I made my own, very extensive research on it.

The result was that few hours after collecting cat after procedure she became lethargic/catatonic, did not want to drink or eat, was vomiting like crazy. I rushed her to vet and she was given steroids, IV etc. It helped for a couple of days and then it was again the same. After 3 procedures like this (super expensive!) I called vet out on Convenia issue. He was adamant that it's impossible and he kept denying obvious even after I told him that I made my research and this is the only explanation why my healthy cat is dying. That was the only drug administered to her and all test showed that she has no problems. I gave him benefit of the doubt as we did not exclude cancer (I had no money for biopsy).

But I digress. Before EVERY procedure he was asking me if I am sure that I want to continue rescuing cat and If I would not prefer to put her down. What the heck? I told him very clearly many times that I raised this baby from when she was 4 weeks old and there is no chance I am giving up so early, yet he kept asking. All this time I was force feeding her and giving her water with a syringe - not that vet told me to do so! When I was mentioning that she does not eat, the only alternatives he proposed was to give her steroids or put her down. She lost 600g of weight before I woke up and looked for help in the internet and found this great website about anorexic cats and I realised that the easiest way to nurse my cat back to health is to feed her, not to give her more drugs.

Going back to Convenia - I decided that I am right, not vet, because after roughly 60 days (what a coincidence) cat started showing interest in food (still not eating) and also she started putting on weight at last and she became more perky, aware and happy. I went to vet just to update him how well my cat is doing after antibiotic is out of her system but he was still trying to tell me that she for sure has some mysterious illness and after I mentioned that she still won't eat by herself - he proposed to put her down, because she is elderly (!!!). Put down 13 year old cat, which is obviously running around, aware, perky and happy. I could not believe my ears.

However still having lasting trust in vet's knowledge, I was giving her prescribed steroids and everything slowly started looking a bit better. And then my cat got constant diarrhoea. Again visit to vet, again proposition to put her down (What the H***?!?) and he advised to give her more steroids, what I did. But after a week, I realised that again - steroids are the only thing which could have caused cat's stomach problems - I called out vet on it. He denied the possibility, but I knew better now - I made a research and what? Veeeery common side effect. As steroids were only given to improve her appetite, but she was not eating anyway - I just decided to withdraw her from the drug behind vet's back. Well, who would have thought - diarrhoea stopped and cat started behaving more like herself...

I went to vet again to check her up (like the general examination), when she was 250g heavier than during last visit - I did that only to rub into vet's face that I knew better what is needed for my cat. Because I made my research! Contrary to him.

I do not think I am going back to him. And this is his lost as I have 10 pets. I hope my baby will live another couple of years and will die from an old age, not because some vet couldn't admit he's wrong and because he never told me that force feeding is an alternative. I can feed my cat like this until she dies, I don't mind.

Is it normal that in the span of 3 months, even when she was very obviously better, he proposed me to put her down 7 times? I just don't...
