I adopted a cat today (yeah, today) and it's my first time being responsible for a rescued cat. She's 6 years of age. I understand the acclimation process takes a while, but so far she has been in her safe room for around 8 hours and hasn't eaten any of the food I've put out, even when I've been away from the room. She was rescued from an investigation and had been put on watch in the shelter because she wasn't eating at all or very little. Her appetite had supposedly improved a lot throughout her stay at the shelter but I fear the stress of the move may have caused her to "relapse" so to speak. At what point would it be worth consulting a vet/behaviorist?
