Cats peeing outside of the litter box.

I have a one year old male cat, that has never done this before.

I have recently purchased a brand new couch, which is immediately peed on the second day. I clean it up, and I start cleaning the litter box A LOT more often (around three times daily, and I have three boxes).

A week later, he pees on it again. I have another cat, and she doesn't do this. I searched online, but the only possible cause I can think of is stress, but he has never done this before, not on anything. The only thing that has really changed in my house since when I first got him was the couch.

Two weeks pass. He pees on it again, on a different part of the couch.

Then yesterday, he pees on my bed.

Then today, he pees on the couch again.

At this point, I hate life. I don't want to have to replace the couch, but that's what is going to happen. One of the things I noticed was that he paws (making a digging motion but without claws) quite frantically on the couch sometimes, but I never really connected his peeing with that.

Since he is sensitive to loud noises, I thought it could've been the vacuum or the washing machine that caused stress, so I usually shoo him upstairs before I do things like that. I thought it was working, until he peed on my bed. I then proceeded to make an appointment with the vet, but that's in two days.

Please help. I don't understand, I've looked up seemingly everything, and I highly doubt he has a medical problem.
