Chronic kidney cat woes

Mostly venting because I need to rant.

My cat is 11 and was diagnosed earlier this year with chronic kidney insufficiency. I'm trying to do the best I can for her--she's been on wet food for years preceding this diagnosis, and is now on prescription wet food and sub-q fluids every other day or so--but she's killing me with these expenses. Every time she gets a bladder infection (3 times this year so far! She really likes to pick Sundays to start peeing blood everywhere so I have to take her to the emergency vet instead of her regular) $300, even though they prescribe the same $50 antibiotic every time. Every checkup, $200. $50/mo wet food, plus feliway $15/mo (because stress causes bladder inflammation and is contributing to the bladder infections per the emergency vet), subq fluids at $60/mo, and appetite stimulants at $50/mo because she's losing weight constantly... it's bleeding me dry. I'm probably in on this cat at least $350/month, every month, on average this year. She's vomiting everywhere and obviously miserable, she turns away from food constantly, but 80% of the time she's mostly all right. I want her to feel as well as she can through all this, but this is getting so goddamn costly and difficult and I don't know how much longer she's going to live like this. She's not even that bad yet in terms of kidney failure, but it's not going to get cheaper as she gets worse/older. I can't just sit there and let her suffer because I don't want to spend the money, and I already know where my hard line is (she's not getting dialysis, and I'd have to think long and hard before letting her stay at a vet overnight) but this is brutal and I'm getting so tired. I love my cat, but when I add up all this bullshit and start thinking about how this is going to go, and then I read things like this could go on for five years (!), jfc.

How in the hell do you make the decision to keep going? How do you make the decision to stop?
