Do I have to keep my cat in a cage because the vet said it had “skin fungus”

I can’t find anything about Skin fungus being ring worm, but anyway the vet said I have to keep it in my tiny cage for about 8 weeks? And I don’t know that just seems like torture, I only got my cat 10 days ago, so do I have to keep it in a cage? Because it literally is just a carriage case. I can’t feed her in it or anything, I had to pay around 70 dollars at the vet and I don’t really have any money to buy a new one, can I just let it roam in my room? Because I don’t think I can keep it in that tiny cage
