Dog and Cat owners, when introducing the two, is there any tips or tricks that really helped produce that "breakthrough" moment?

Context. I have a 4year old cat that has grown up with 3 other dogs. She likes them but is startled by the excitement and curiosity (and visa versa) of my new dog (1 year old). I'm following the American Humane Society's advice to the letter, but am wondering if any of you had any other tricks that aided the breakthrough?

So far its going cautiously and slowly, but alright. I didn't do this impulsively and the cat has her own safe space where she can roam and rest in peace. I believe I am doing everything that can be done to facilitate this in a responsible and loving manner.
