Flying My 60 Pound Golden Retriever Across The Atlantic Ocean

To give some back story my 5 year old daughter was gifted a Golden Retriever while we were there on vacation (we are from Portugal and have our own house) we were never able to bring the dog over because in the united states i still live with my mother and she did not want a dog in the house, my parents are divorced so my dad took care of the dog because he lived in portugal, he now is about 10 years old and we visit him every summer, my mom has agreed to bring him because he’s getting older and the more we go and come back he gets more severely depressed when we leave and won’t eat, he will be on a 8 hour flight from Lisbon, Portugal to Newark, New Jersey and i’m very nervous, he’s never flown before but he does love being adventures and going places, whenever i look up tips on how to cope and ease my anxiety i just get shown articles of people’s pets dying while on a flight which worries me even more!, any tips to help me keep calm? (ps he has no overlay just a long straight 8 hour flight) I also have yet to book his flight i’m waiting till it cools down here and in portugal so it’s not too hot to fly him. Has anyone had a good experience flying with they’re pets in cargo? Thanks!
