[Help] Adopting from out of state - bad idea? (x-post)

I've been looking to adopt a dog for close to 6 months, but haven't found a good fit in the local shelters. I have an alert set up on Petfinder that sends me new dog listings every day within 100 miles of me. A listing popped up that looked really promising, but upon reading I realized the dog was in the South and could be transported to my area. If I wanted to adopt, it would be without meeting the dog. Now I know it's common for shelters in the South to send dogs up to shelters in North due to overcrowding, but this was the first I heard of shelter to owner adoption from the South.

I did as much research as I could on the organization and the transport company, and I haven't found anything negative online. Both have active Facebook pages with good reviews. I did speak with someone from the shelter in question on the phone and they seem legitamite, but I am just going by my gut feeling which says this is obviously more risky than adopting locally, but not an insane idea overall. If this sounds shady or not a standard thing in the rescue/adoption community, I'd appreciate someone telling me that.

I was wondering if anyone has done something like this before and willing to share their thoughts and experiences. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
