How long will fleas from a pet survive with only humans around?

Not sure if this is the right sub for this, but my parents got a couple of new kittens, who I visited this weekend, but they had fleas from their mother and were too young for flea medicine (my mom tries in vain to hand pick them).

I got bitten up, but now I'm back living at my own place. However, I saw a flea on my leg today which I assume was a hitchhiker from yesterday. I took a shower and threw all my stuff in the wash, but I'm worried I've infected my apartment. I don't have any pets, but does anyone know if fleas from a pet will survive on a person long-term? Do I need to burn my bed, or will these ones only lay eggs on animals?
