I found a small, tiny black dog wandering in my neighbourhood, without a leash. I’ve seen it twice now, wandering by itself. How do I go about approaching it to take it to a shelter?

Hi there, first time poster here so I apologize for any mistakes.

As the title states, I’ve recently seen a tiny black dog wandering around aimlessly in my neighbourhood and since it doesn’t have a collar, I’m under the impression it might be a stray. I’m worried about it and would like to take it to a shelter. Is there anything I should keep in mind before doing so? (Such as how to approach it, etc.)
