Wife doesn't want pets because "they smell". She makes excellent money, allowing me to work from home. I take care of the house, cook, and do laundry as well. Occasionally, (less than once a week) she'll do a "chore" around the house, but it's mostly part of my job.
We had a cat for almost a year, but my allergies forced us to give her up. While we had the cat, I fed her, took care of her and cleaned her litter box 2x a day (at wife's request). She NEVER had to do anything.
2 years ago, we got a small aquarium and fish. In those 2 years, she's never had to clean out the tank, feed the fish, etc. ONCE, a few weeks ago, while I was out with a few girlfriends, I asked her to turn off the tank light and told her where the switch was. I can home a few hours later to the tank light still on.
I love my fish, but you can't cuddle with them. The house we live in is too small for a dog, which is fine because she doesn't want a dog because they destroy everything. I suggested perhaps getting a small mammal like a guinea pig or hamster... She it's against it 100% because they smell. She won't even go in a pet store because she thinks they all stink.
What can I do? I can't use the "it's my money" argument because she pays most of the bills. Thanks.
