Hey reddit! Today i picked up a cat from my uncle who is giving us this kitty. She’s 7/8 months old. She was very quiet and sweet but she had fleas and such. We cleaned her up and she’s so pretty! We have a dog at home who’s 6 years old, we got him in 2013 as a rescue. He’s a sweetie pie! He was so quiet when we first got him that we thought he was mute, but he started barking eventually. He only barks at potential threats. We’ve had another dog in the house, and they managed to live peacefully together. My dog keeps his distance from animals that don’t want to be near him, but he always sticks around close enough to be close but not close enough to upset the animal, and he whines because he wants to be friends with them! So when we brought home our new cat, she turned from quiet and comfy to hissing and scratching when she saw our dog. She didn’t hurt him, but she moved her paws around trying to scratch my dog, and because i was holding her i got a cut. I hear that it’s usually it’s the dog having to get used to the cat, or the first animal, but it’s really the new cat. She’s getting better at handling his presence, as he can get closer to her, but too close and she starts hissing. How can i get her to be calm around him?
