Can someone explain to me what's the purpose of having an outdoor and unrestrained cat as a pet? Dogs too but way more people do this with cats. I'm sure with a group this size there are a few and don't mean any disrespect just truly don't get it, especially with un neutered/fixed animals.
There is the whole invasive species argument but besides that to me a pet is an animal that lives with you and depends on you to live. If it's on it's own I consider it a wild animal, not a pet even if it comes to your home for food once in awhile. I can put a bird feeder on a tree but does that mean I have pet birds? I don't think so
It's just that I have neighbors with "pet" cats they just let loose and of course they breed and every month or so there's a dead kitten on the road by my house that got run over. I also see posts everyday on my local Facebook groups saying their dogs/cats never came home at night like normal so were lost.
So again don't mean any offense I am genuinely curious as to the thought process/logic behind it. I should mention I am talking about in city limits situations.. ....I know there are "barn" cats and country/farm people let their dogs roam as there is almost no risk of getting hit by cars.
