We have an old Boxer, we are told she’s somewhere between 9-11 years old. She has lost most of her teeth and I noticed she started struggling eating her food. She would sometimes eat a little and then not finish her food. And sometimes the same amount of food she used to eat in a day, now she takes 2-3 days to finish.
One day I accidentally got some water in her food bowl. And I noticed her super excited eating off her bowl and she ate all her food I had just served her. That’s when I realized, the food got soggy and it was easier for her to chew and eat. For a couple of weeks now I have been adding a little water to her food to soggy it up, and as soon as it turns soft she eats it up. She started gaining a little weight and seems a lot more happy now.
Does anyone know if this is an OK practice? I honestly can’t afford canned food, and thought this was a neat alternative, since she loves it and hasn’t really gotten sick. But I wanted to get some feedback from this sub on the matter.
