I understand that cats will do this for different reasons - sexual aggression, or maternal instincts in female cats with their young, or to show dominance.
My older cat is 4 years old and my younger cat is 2. They are not related. They are both males and the best of buds. I got my younger cat at 8 weeks old and my older cat helped me raise him and has been an excellent "older bro". They do everything together - love to cuddle and sleep together and they play fight.
I noticed my older cat will jump on my younger cat whenever he chases light (my older cat has gotten wise to understanding that light is no actual object to chase, but my younger cat goes just bonkers over any light movement). The last year I've noticed it really bothers my older cat whenever my younger cat chases light and so it seems as if he's biting his neck to subdue him or tell him knock it off, it's just light!
But lately I've noticed my older cat bite my younger cat in the neck for seemingly no reason at all. My younger cat will sometimes yelp like it's actually hurting him (yes, they're both fixed) and just today I had to pry him off my younger cat. He was fine, but it was a little unsettling. Other than that, they are the best cats I could ask for and very well behaved and show a lot of love for one another.
Does anyone know the reason for this or if I should be concerned?
