9 weeks old kitten peeing problem

Hi! This is my first post here and I'm really would use some advice. I adopted my kitten when he was 4 weeks old and abandoned by his mother. He had no problems adapting to the new surroudings or behavioral ones, besides being a little bit bitey and keen on wool sucking. He is staying at my room most of the time, uses litter box normally, playing and running around, he also has a great appetite. I want him to grow a little bit bigger before he can go and explore the house freely, because of the stairs, which can be dangerous for him, since he is so little. He grasped peeing in the litter box almost immiedately, but the problem appears when he is taken downstairs to hang out with me and my family and socialize with our older female cat. Although he has a litter box in a laundry room which is easy accesible, he chose to go to the toilet behind the TV cabinet twice and behind the curtains once. When i take him to the laundry room and put him into the box, he pee normally, did it twice already. Can it be behavioral or should I get him checked for UTI?
