A nice pet for a small apartment that doesn’t mind a bit of travel

Hey all, Thanks for looking into this. A bit of backstory: I am a rather social woman who’s had dogs pretty much from the beginning. Peak amount for my parents was 5 so lots of life in house. Ranging from mastiffs to chihuahuas, so I have experience with more problematic behaviour and managed to correct it. As well as a boxer so I can deal with hyperbeasts. I moved about two hours away for a job and live in an apartment of about 20m squared. It’s decent enough.

As I was used to life around me I want to get a pet. Landlord said no pets but I have it in writing that a ‘cage’ animal is fine for him so long as it doesn’t make a lot of noise or creates complaints. My question is if there is a ‘cage animal’ that would suit me? It mainly needs to be okay with moving with me to my parents for a weekend about once or twice a month. The trip would be 2 hours.

I was thinking a ferret but I am afraid the room will be left smelling of ferret... I don’t mind a smell in and of itself but I wanna avoid confrontations. And apparently they don’t do well with moving. Any ideas? At any rate thanks so much!
