Anyone else bothered by how some people look forward to their pets' deaths?

I often see experts warning exotic pet owners (usually for stuff like fish, reptiles, and birds) that these animals live a long period of time, and you should be prepared to care for them in that long time span.

The reason this bothers me is because this implies that these owners look forward to their pets dying so that they no longer have to care for them...which is just cruel. I feel like a true pet owner would be HAPPY that their companion will be around that long, and if not, then they shouldn't have a pet at all.

Think about how sad you were when you had to put down your favorite dog or cat. I bet a lot of dog and cat owners wish their pets lived as long as fish, reptiles, and birds, because they see their pets as actual companions and not just as objects.
