Dog keeps peeing on the carpet after I left

To put a little context into this, someone I was close with got a dog. This dog and I got very attached while I was there, despite me not even having any input as to if I wanted a dog or not. This was her dog, not mine. Fast forward to august, I leave for an undetermined amount of time, which I announced to said person about a month or so ago, I needed space. Cue the dog, long time shelter animal, been abandoned multiple times, starts peeing on the carpet in multiple places while her owner is gone.

This is a female husky mix and she's 6 years old. My gut is telling me it's my fault, my brain however is asking questions as to why this is happening as if I abandoned her. I was sure she knew who her owner was. I get texts about her accidents on almost a daily basis. My guts also telling me that the peeing is unlikely to stop. The owner is also unable to take her to the vet as she doesn't drive not does she have friends willing to help. Any advice as to what she could do BESIDES punishment would help. I half-heartedly mentioned relinquishing her, but I honestly think she won't survive being given up an upteenth time. I honestly feel like going back for the dog but I really didn't ask to incur half the responsibility of said dog as I did.
