My husband and I are at odds over future pets and are not sure how to compromise. This is a long story so I will try to make it brief.
Together 8 years, married 6 years. We have 4 cats and 1 large dog. My mother had been responsible for giving us 2 of our cats. My husband and mother do not get along. We are buying a house in the country with lots of space.
Now that you know the back story, here's the deal: I have been rescuing animals for the last 20 years or so. I told my husband all of this and that I planned to keep doing so, even to the point of having a farm type space one day so that I could rescue dogs, well before we were dating let alone married. He has never expressed any problem with this, even with the more exotic animals like snakes and lizards. He has accepted a job out in the country and wants land which is where he said we can have the farm I always wanted. He even went as far as saying I could have horses. We live near my mother and she feeds strays. One of them has been coming to my house for food for a year now and we have a good bond. She showed up injured today while I was out and my mother want to help her. When my husband and I got home she was in a panic and asked me to rush the cat inside, and I had to take her to the only cat free space we had, our bedroom. Well we could not really help her and my mother let her out of the house to feed her babies.(she gave birth about a week ago and we cant find them) My husband was quite irritated and when I tried to figure out why he dropped a bombshell. He wants no more animals. He wants 2 max. I was stunned. We don't know what to do. He says he feels bad about dropping this on me and that he doesn't know why he feels this way. He says he never said anything before because he knew how much it means to me and he wanted me to be happy. He wants to find a middle ground but neither of us can think of one. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
