I am going to post this in r/goldenretrievers as well so I’m sorry if you’re seeing this twice.
Basically, I’ll be bringing home an 8 week old golden retriever towards the end of October. I am definitely going to crate train her, very firm on that. However, I also want to get her used to the backyard. Right now I am not working but plan to in the near future after we’ve had her for a while. I’m thinking about the days when I’ll be out of the house for longer than 3+ hours at a time. I don’t want her to pee or poop in her crate then be stuck with it until I get home. Also, I want her to be able stretch her legs, explore her surroundings, get used to the different neighborhood noises during the day etc.
I don’t know. Is this backwards what I want? Is it ok to leave a puppy in the backyard while we are out of the house? I want to do things right for her.
