I have two female gerbils, and both are itching themselves around every one-two minutes when they aren't sleeping. They also barely chew cardboard as well. I would throw in an empty paper towel roll and it would be gone in 20 minutes. It has now been 2 days and the roll is barely chewed. They have also stopped using their wheels as often as they usually have. Both are about one year old as well. Mites (possibly tropical rat mites form what I have read, though I'm not sure) have also been a problem in the past. About a month back, they were cleaned and given prevention shots, though I'm not sure how effective they were. What should I do?
