Hey all!
We feed Sawyer (dog) and abbott (cat) at the same times and in different areas for dinner but not for breakfast. Abbott gets fed in around 9 am while Sawyer gets fed around 10 am. If Abbott is not fed on the dot, he will cause mayhem by breaking things, getting all of our plastic bags out of the plastic bag holder, jumps on our bed to scratch the living daylights out of it, bites us, etc. If Sawyer is fed too early, he won’t eat till hours later. He’s lazy about food and only gets excited to eat when we are watching him. We cannot pick his food up because if he doesn’t eat breakfast or “brunch” he will get snappy. About three weeks ago, we noticed Abbott not eating his dinner but would eat his breakfast. We spent many days trying to figure out the cause and then it hit us. He eats his breakfast because there is no dog food out. He eats the dog food when it’s out.
Getting one of those fancy dinner plates with the doors is not in our budget right now. We can not place the dog in another room for the entire day as we have a small apartment and that would just be mean. Does anyone have any ideas? The cat is trainable but will look you in the eyes while doing what he knows is bad. I trained the dog to not let Abbott eat while Sawyer is eating 3 years ago when Abbott and I moved in with Sawyer. However that depended on us being home for the entire day.
Any ideas are welcome!
