After about two years of planning, I finally adopted a cat. She's sweet and cuddly and honestly a really good cat but the issue is after having her for a few days I'm realizing I'm allergic to her. Like I woke up covered in hives and wheezing with my eyes all swollen shut after letting her sleep in my bed allergic. I really wasn't expecting this as an issue: I've been around cats plenty and never had allergies before (albeit around friend's cats, and usually not as up close and personal as I've been with my cat).
I guess I'm looking at my options here. I spent a few hours crying and thinking I was an awful person for considering returning to cat to the Humane Society after only a few days, but I also know I'd wouldn't be able to give her all the cuddling she clearly needs if she makes me this sick. I have kept her out of my bedroom for the night and she keeps crying to be let in. :( Cats do tend to get adopted pretty quickly in our area so I'm not exactly worried about her finding a home, but I still would feel insanely guilty returning her since I feel like I'm breaking a promise I made to take care of her if I do that. Then again, I'll deal with feeling awful if it's better for her in the long run.
tldr; Never had allergies before with short term exposure to cats, adopted a (very cuddly) cat of my own and I seem to be seriously allergic to her. What would be the best course of action for both me and the cat?
