Kitten suddenly won't use his box at night?

We have two cats. One is an adult neutered male, about a year and a half, the other is about a male about 4 months old. He's scheduled to be neutered next month. I should clarify he isn't even ours, but since our housemates won't take care of their cat, we do. We have 3 litter boxes. 2 covered and 1 uncovered. The uncovered one is our housemates' box that they NEVER clean and their dog constantly gets into. The covered ones belong to us and are clean. We haven't changed litter or food or anything either. The kitten was at the vet less than a week ago and they said he's perfectly healthy and can't imagine why he's suddenly peeing outside his box. He won't poop outside of it and he will pee in it... but only during the day. At night, it's like he no longer understands and pees in my dirty laundry hamper instead. I'm glad he's not sick and I'm not angry at him, but I am very confused as to what could be causing this?

Any ideas? I haven't tried changing his litter type yet, but I might if he keeps it up. We also gave both covered boxes a good scrub down just in case he didn't find it clean enough. We can't lock him out of our bedroom at night, because he yowls and wakes everyone up if he can't be with his big brother and us.

Just to avoid any redundant questions that may come up;

Both cats have been to the vet. Both are very healthy.

They're on a grain-free diet. They get wet food in the mornings before we leave for work and dry food in the evenings before we go to bed. Their intake is regulated for their breed, weight, and age.

They have a flowing filtered water dish that they have access to 24/7. It's always full and clean.

They have access to all 3 boxes at all times. We leave our door open for them to come and go as they please when we aren't home.

They're both indoor kitties.

Older kitty is neutered, younger is to be neutered next month.

Their litter is the dust-free type. It's a multicat formula.

This is recent behavior for the kitten. Within the last 2 weeks.

He seems to only go in my dirty laundry hamper. Specifically, my work aprons which are usually covered in sugar syrup.

This only occurs at night. Possibly a visual problem?

Both kitties adore one another and get along fabulously. They cry for one another if they're ever separated via a door.
