Our cat has recently started becoming sporadicly aggressive toward our dog, completely unprovoked. The dog has been afraid of him and up until a few days ago would cower and back away. The other day the cat cornered him in a bedroom and slight madness ensued in our house as my wife and I intervened and separated the animals then sat stumped and concerned. We (mostly my wife) are very concerned about the cat going at the dog and then the dog becoming so scared that he seriously injures the cat—or worse. At this point we are keeping them separate in either half of the house (cats basically have their own apartment). We are beginning to feel like our family will never be able to live peacefully. Can anyone please share some wisdom? We are becoming a bit desperate.
TLDR: Cat attacked dog, dog lunges back. They are now kept separate for fear of nasty brawl. Seeking help/advice to get our family back together.
