(Advice Needed!) my cat has a sudden and unending issue with her water bowl

I have an eight month old female kitten who has been with me since she was born (former barn cat). She’s been permanently inside and using a gravity water bowl since she was ten weeks. She paws at it a little bit every now and then but I’ve never had an issue with her knocking it over until now.

This week, she has suddenly decided that the water bowl is her enemy. She’s knocked it over four times in the last three days alone. It isn’t for attention, as she usually does it when I’m not home or when I’m asleep. The water and the water bowl aren’t dirty, it’s filtered town water that she’s never had an issue with before and the bowl gets cleaned regularly. It isn’t an access or comfort issue, like I said, she’s been using this bowl for six months with no issues. It isn’t accidental while playing (the few that have happened while I was home at least), as she can play with the water fine without knocking it and will run off as soon as it gets tipped.

I am at my wit’s end with this sudden misbehavior. I know there are weighted bowls out there, but I often work long days and don’t want to risk leaving her with a finite water source, and I worry that switching from a gravity to a fountain would have the same problem.

Help?
