We had to put down our 14 year old dog today.
She was my first puppy. I remember seeing her at the pound and I looked into her eyes and whispered “You know it’s gonna be you, right?” And sure enough, my family finally came over and fell in love with her at first sight. I remember bringing her home from the pound that first day and seeing her eyes light up with energy seeing she had a yard to run and play in.
In the end, she was dying of cancer. She couldn’t walk anymore, and I had to carry her in and out of the house. She was clearly in pain and losing control of her bladder. There was nothing else we could do. Surgery at her age wouldn’t have been fair. It was time.
I carried her into the vet today, silently crying. I loved her, she will always be this boys first dog. And I know she’s up there chasing squirrels or reliving that first day she came home with her family, cause all dogs go to heaven.
