My brother just bought a new kitten, weeks after his one of his older cats was put down - the surviving cat doesn't get along with the new kitten

Is there anything he can do?

Backstory: My brother adopted two cats about 13 years ago. One of them (Cat #1) , came from an abused family, and was extraordinarily unfriendly to all other living creatures (except my brother). The other cat (Cat #2), he got as a kitten and she was the friendliest, smartest, most playful thing. Cat #1 hated her. As they grew older together, they never got along. However, Cat #2 was always friendly to all people...just not Cat #1, whom was always off and slightly violent.

So, now there's a new kitten in the house. The kitten is always trying to play with Cat #2, and cat #2 can't stand it. She is always trying to get away from the kitten, and regularly hits her on the head if the kitten doesn't leave her alone.

Will Cat #2 ever warm up to the kitten? Is there anything he can do to help them get along?
