So I recently got a place of my own and took one of the family cats. She was the newest of the bunch, the other 4 grew up together so they basically just tortured this one all day. She was hiding behind the washer, barely got to eat, etc.
I’ve been trying to get her on an eating schedule, but it seems that no matter what food I give her, and no matter how little I give her, she won’t finish the bowl. I’m no cat psychologist, but I THINK it may have to do with the fact that she never knew if there would be enough food, so she’s afraid to finish the bowl because she wants to make sure there’s more for later. This would be fine if I was just doing dry food, but I’m trying to get her on wet food so I end up throwing out part of the can every day.
I can tell she’s not just full, because sometimes she’ll leave the bowl with a bit left in it (I’m giving her less to try to get her to finish it), and she’ll go over towards the pantry where I keep her food and start meowing. If I bring the bowl over to her, she’ll lick at it for a few minutes and just do the same thing. Is there anything I can do in this situation?
