So it's a bit of a long story but I have a 16 year old cat, he's extremely well behaved and sooooo nice, he was separated from his sister a few years ago and never really seemed to get over it. Fast forward to a year ago I'm living with a roomate who wants a cat and I wanted another for my cat so when we moved out my cat would still have a new brother/son (he's more of a dad) and wouldn't get sad again. This was my roomates first pet (we got kittens that I found online and I went and got for both of us) and immediately he just didn't take care of him and it fell on me to feed/give water/change the litter. I tried not to be overly affectionate for the first 5 months because I kept expecting him to be a decent human but eventually he started just locking the cat out of his room when he was at home (he works 11 hours a day 6 days a week I work 10 hours for 5 days) so the cat just wasn't getting the attention it deserves. I made appointments to get them neutered and got them chipped under my name soon after that and I'm anxious af about things so I made one last attempt and told him I got the cats neutered and he said cool now they won't be as annoying, offered me no money and that was it, I had a third cat. Fast forward a year and I'm in waaaay over my head with 3 cats, the one that was my roomates acts a like a baby (honestly best way I can describe it) I'm sure he has seperation anxiety. It cannot be alone and at least needs me or another cat with him or he will cry for hours. With me not being home enough they've both developed bad habits like jumping on the counters so when I'm cooking they'll just consistently jump up no matter how many times I take them down (My main concern is they try when the stoves on as well but I'm much more vigilant with that). My other issues are that they wake me up every morning by trying to knock things off my desk or get at wires on the desk (they only do this in the morning, I think they're trying to force me up to feed them as it seems to stop right after that). Another issue I have is when a door is closed they'll sit outside and meow for hours to get in, I'll pick them up and bring them to wherever I'm sitting and they'll just run back to the door and start meowing again. Lastly when I try to leave they are bolters, sometimes they go so fast I don't even see them fly by me. I live in an apartment so when they bolt they just run away down the hall but when I'm rushing to get a bus in the morning it is extremely frustrating. So I'm just wondering if anyone has advice on training them or what I should do to ease the babyish ones anxiety. I've already cut my shifts back to 4 days a week since a couple months ago to try and be with them more. I honestly love all three cats more than anything, my older cat loves them both as well and I've never even considered giving one of the kittens up. I just wish we could make it a little easier on me 🙏
