If this is the wrong subreddit, let me know please.
Context: I’m an 18 year old college student in Puerto Rico. I’m home for the holidays and I study an hour away, so I’m staying in an apartment. The apartment is the second floor(no way to get in from the first floor other than the designated second floor door) of the owner’s house. I was underage when the contract was signed so my mom and dad signed it for me. Also I have a roommate.
With all of that out of the way, here’s the issue. My dad got me a baby guinea pig a couple of days ago because I’d always wanted one as a kid. I’m home for the next couple of weeks, but after that I gotta head back to college. After looking over the apartment’s contract again, I saw that it stated(translated from Spanish) “no pets are to be kept while occupying the apartment” or something among those lines. The owner’s generally a nice guy but I don’t know if he’ll bend on this. What do I do?
I’ve come up with some ideas but I don’t know if they’re good.
1) I could try to have my dad convince him to let me keep it so long as I keep it caged and all of that. 2) We could offer to pay extra for a “pet clause” or something like that(if modifying the contract is even allowed).
Thanks in advance!
PS: Before anyone says it, yes I will get her a friend if I’m allowed to keep her. I know how important that is.
