So for reference, this cat has lived outside...I'm not sure for how long. She and many other wild cats that were captured, fixed, and released back to the complex and fed by the community, would always come to my door for food and treats.
Recently we have just moved into a house from that apartment (still unpacking). Before this, I took her to the vet a week before our move, and before that I had brought her inside a few times to socialize with my cat. She would sit on my lap and try to burrow and hide in the blankets, but I thought it was just because she was scared and my cat would hiss at her at the start.
I explained to the vet that she was living outside and I planned to adopt her and bring her with me to the house since a lot of her outside friends had also been adopted and I didn't want to leave her there by herself. He gave her the typical vaccinations, and I mentioned that she also had a small cyst / bump on her neck. The vet gave it a look, and said that it had ruptured at some point...possibly in an outside fight. I can't remember if he said it was causing her pain, as it is a dried up sort of half ruptured cyst at this point.
He said wait until we are moved to bring her in to remove it and they can see if it is cancerous or not, but he seems optimistic it is not. He then gave her a shot of antibiotics 'for pain', and gave me tablets to put in her food that would also help with any possible pain she might be in.
Understandably, she withdrew when I brought her home and would hide in the box springs under the bed. It is very concerning to me though since she did this for a full on week, occasionally changing hiding places under the sofa's box springs, etc. I left a pillow under the bed that she would lay on, and I would bring her food under the bed because my cat would eat her food if I didn't feed her separate.
Before our move at the end of the week, she started creeping out of the room more when I would be making her food, though she would go back once my cat saw her and would essentially just stare at her until she went back into hiding (he's a bully, but I know he is capable of getting along with her since the hissing has stopped and I have yet to see any fights).
Now that we are moved, I let her out and haven't caught sight of her. She's been up in the sofa's box springs all night, and she wouldn't even come out for food this morning. I tried to leave it behind the couch for when she wanted it, but I'm just so worried this is going to be a forever thing. I am definitely making a vet's appointment this friday, I just don't know if I am taking her for possibly an illness, or if I should go ahead and get her surgery for the cyst. I am half worried stressing her out with the surgery too will make things worse.
Will it just take some time for her to get used to another place after I already took her into a new place she was just getting used to? Is she in terrible pain and I just don't know it? She definitely has an appetite from what I've seen, and she is using the litter box flawlessly. She must just creep out when we're not there or asleep to use it. I'm worried. :(
