So right now i'm a hamster person; I love the little furballs, but I don't like that they never live more than a few years. :( I want advice on what species I should consider, and would be able to properly care for.
-The job I want and am training for is one where I would have long hours working from home, but occasional long stays away from home
-but I do have family who are willing to care for any pets I have. This would mean some travelling however.
-I have no children and am unlikely to have any, but my sister is, so preferably the animal would be safe and not stressed out by kids, but this isn't essential.
-I'll probably be earning enough for any regular pet species, but the cheaper their care is the more I can spoil them with extras. :3
-My family live in very open wilderness and farmland, but I live in a city now, and will probably continue to do so for at least 50-60% of my time. A dog or cat wouldn't be suitable for me because of this; not much space for walks and wandering safely. I don't want to keep cats indoors. (Don't want to get in an argument, just accept I don't want cats for this reason. :))
-There's no exotic vets in our area, so nothing a regular pet or farm vet wouldn't be able to handle.
-I like cuddles, so I want an animal that can be tamed and trained to be comfortable with me and others.
-And ofc, the reason i'm giving up on hamsters; I want it to have a decent average lifespan.
I've heard birds like parrots can live a long time, but I don't know enough about how much space or outdoors they need, or how difficult it would be to keep such an intelligent animal happy and entertained. :/
Any advice is greatly appreciated, I want to be 100% sure I can care well for my little buddy it's whole life. You guys here know more about the different types of pets and what they need, I only know about dogs and small furries. :) Thankyou all in advance.
