Hi there,
There's a known unstable homeless person in my area who has a new dog. I've personally not approached this homeless man due to safety reasons (he needs immediate mental help). Every few weeks I drop off food for him when he's not there, and I've noticed he has a new dog. I've called the county line to provide this man with help, and although they've checked on him a few times, they haven't put him in a facility, I'm still working on finding him some long-term care. He has some type of psychosis or schizophrenia. Meanwhile, I'm worried about his new dog. It's been really cold out here (40*F at night), and today while driving (and stopped) I noticed the leg hair partially gone, and his foot in bad shape (like he's been biting himself, maybe he has fleas or mange). I attached a photo, but I was in my car and it REALLY doesn't show the damage on the dog.
I took a picture and called my county's animal control, they saw the photo and said there's nothing they can do since the dog looks relatively okay. Reddit, what else can I do for this dog while I'm finding assistance for his owner since the county shut me down? Am I overstepping here? I just want to be sure the dog and owner are OK. Thanks!
