How to Get Cat Re-Accustomed to Bathroom?

Hi everyone! I've been having this issue with my cat for a while now and was wondering if I could get some advice on what to do.

When I first got him as a kitten last year, he loved going into my bathroom. I'd always keep the toilet lid closed so he could jump up, jump up to the sink, and lick some water from the faucet. However, after I gave him his first bath, he became deathly afraid of everything in the bathroom. And it seemed like he lost of bit of trust with me too as he started behaving a bit differently than he used to.

It took me months just to get him to start going back inside and after the first few months of me trying to get him comfortable again, things were actually going well. He stopped being so scared and even randomly tried to jump on top of the lid on his own and even try to jump up to the sink. Unfortunately, he slipped and fell into the trashcan and we were back at square one. Now, he will come into the bathroom but only likes being there for a few seconds before wanting to get out. The moment I move near the sink or bathtub he starts getting scared and wants to leave, laying right against the door. Tonight, I tried to use treats to make him associate it with good rewards, but I could only get him to jump on top of the toilet.

I really just want him to be comfortable and to bring that trust back to 100%, even if that means I can't bathe him at home. He's also a bit overweight so I've been putting him on a diet and exercising him more, but I can't weigh him on my scale (my bathroom is the only flooring I have with a hard floor, other than the kitchen downstairs. I can't put the scale there because my grandmother has severe Alzheimer's and she trips over things very easily). I tried to pick him up while we were in the bathroom and he started to completely freak out.

It's been a little over a year since he's been afraid of the bathroom and I just don't know how to get him to be relaxed in there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
