Contrary to a lot of cat/dog introductions, my animals are the opposite of their stereotypes. I'm staying home for winter break and I brought home my 4 year old cat who is very curious, very friendly, outgoing, and confident.
In contrast, my family's dog is nearing 15 year old, small, frail, and shy to anything non-human. They've already met, but it's very awkward. My cat just sniffs the dog every once in a while and goes on doing his thing. However, when the cat enters the dog's line of sight, she tucks her tail under her and shuffles away towards the nearest human.
I'm glad they aren't interested in fighting, but I don't want my dear old dog to feel so tense around him. I should also add that the cat is twice her size. I've started giving the dog more treats when the cat is around, and that seems to help a little. Should I try to encourage friendlier relations between them, or let them be?
