Is it normal to feel anxious before adopting a pet?

I grew up with cats and although I have not had one for several years, in the back of my mind I've been thinking it would be nice to have another cat. Recently I made a couple spontaneous trips to the local animal shelter and found a cat who I could see myself adopting (I currently have him on hold and I just went out and bought cat supplies), however I am surprised to find myself becoming quite anxious about it. I think part of this is because I grew up with semi-outdoor cats who got exercise outside and were not allowed in certain parts of the house whereas this time I would keep the cat indoors, so I am wondering how much my day-to-day routines will be effected by having a cat in closer proximity. Also I am doing a lot of research on cats and realizing how little enrichment my childhood cats were given and perhaps feeling guilty/worrying about whether I will be able to make my new cat happy.

Anyway, I know it's kinda silly but I'm curious whether it's normal to feel nervous before getting a new pet? Or is it a sign that I am jumping into things too fast? What have been your experiences?
