Is there anything else I can do to get these strays to trust me?

I say strays, but they’re two kittens, I think around five months old. They showed up at our house about two months ago, and they were so skittish we thought there was only one, until both moved started coming out after feeding them for a few weeks. I’ve already named them and I sit outside with them a little in the morning and evening everyday. The younger one, who I think is a girl, has warmed up to me faster than her brother and today I was able to touch her head a few times without her moving a foot away. I’ve noticed she’s started to follow me when I turn my back, and has even tried to follow me inside. The brother is probably a few weeks behind and keeps a greater distance from me. I’ve got them a little house stuffed with blankets, I feed them every day, and I haven’t tried to catch them forcibly. I’d like to be able to take them to the vet soon, but at this pace, I think that’s still some time away. Should I just keep going how I am, or is there anything else I can do? With how long it’s taken them to trust me, I’m thinking their mother gave birth to them outside of a home. I also haven’t seen her around. They desperately try to love on my cat, but he just smacks them away.
