My 3-year-old cat died today out of the blue

The vet thinks it was Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy since it sincerely was right out of the blue. He'd been totally normal. Eating, drinking, playing, cuddling. My daughter started screaming for me because he went limp and started meowing weird and in 30 seconds, it was over. Even worse, the vet says it's usually genetic and we have his brother as well. I haven't told my kid that part yet. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm so sad and still in shock. It was incredibly traumatic for both of us and we will miss him so so so much. He was like our dog cat. He slept under the covers with me. He ran to the door whenever someone came over. He followed us around. He never liked to be alone. The only thing I'm thankful for is that we both had a snow day today so he didn't die alone.
