Long story short, my husband was out of a (good) job for a long time. He did odd jobs here and there so we couldn't take our dog to the vet like we are supposed to. When we adopted her in 2015, she was HW+ one vet said a strong positive, one said low. We had her on preventives until mid 2017 when he lost his job. Well today was the day I got to take her, low and behold...she is HW-!!! I am overjoyed and so happy. That quickly was overshadowed by "how?" We live in southeast Texas where the mosquitoes are huge, and plentiful, and last through "winter". She is an inside dog but goes out for potty & play. I'm just so confused as how this can happen. Basically 2.5 years with no medications and she's HW-. I did get her some today, incase there are baby heartworms brewing. Anyone else had this happen before?
