Therefore, keeping your pet outside in cold weather for a long time can make them ill. Even the furriest coat dog can get cold if kept outside for a long period during winters. So, it is advisable to take your dog out for walks, play sessions or exercise, but don’t leave them outside for a long period. Also, keep an eye over the major signs of frostbite like skin that may appear white or blue.

Get Suitable Clothes for Your Pet

Several dog breeds that are naturally equipped with their external layering system, which is their thick fur that keeps them warm naturally, even during extremely cold temperatures. However, some dogs have very lighter layers of fur and they may feel extremely uncomfortable with the cold temperatures. These types of dogs may require wearing a sweater, coat or jacket when they are outside the home for a walk or any other activities. The cloth should cover your pet fully from the neck to the base of the tail and also the belly. One important thing to keep in mind is whatever clothes you choose; they may not prevent your pet from frostbite on some body parts like feet, tail or ears. Therefore, make certain to not keep your light layered dog out for too long during winters.

Give your Pet a Warm and Cozy Bedding

Most dog breeds prefer sleeping at a nice warm place, especially during the winters when the days are short and nights long. So, make sure to give your furry friend warm and cozy bedding during cold days. Consider getting a raised bed to keep your furry buddy off cold tiles, give them some warm blanket to create a snug environment. Further, you can also give them heated pet beds. Also, make sure to place your pet’s bedding in a warm spot away from cold winds, drafts, uncarpeted cold floors, or anything which makes them feel cold and uncomfortable.

Keep your Furry Buddy Moisturized and Hydrated

Just like human beings, cold temperatures can have a really bad effect on your pet’s skin. In order to prevent dry, peeling and chapped skin, make sure to apply a good quality moisturizer regularly on your pet’s skin. Apart from moisturizing, another important thing to keep in mind is to keep your furry buddy well hydrated during winters. Just because it’s cold, doesn’t mean that you’ll reduce your pet’s water consumption. Same as summers, pets are prone to get dehydrated during winters too. Therefore, give your dog plenty of fresh water during winters to prevent the risk of dehydration.

Give Your Pet a Proper Paw Care

As pets can also suffer from cracked feet just like human beings, it is important to give them proper paw care during cold weather. Make sure to wash your pet’s paws properly after they come back home from outside. Rinsing your pet’s paws will help wash out any presence of winter salt that may be toxic to your furry buddy. Also, make sure to trim all the excess hair around the paws to prevent the accumulation of ice between the pads.

Therefore, you must be ready and always prepared to protect your furry friend, no matter what the condition might be.
