Two elderly cats and a blind dog issues at home

My wife and I have had two cats since about 2005. They have usually given free reign of the house, with the exception of our bedroom, for most of their time with us. Since approximately 2008, we’ve had various dogs (gone through 3 since that time) and for the most part, the cats have always gotten along with the dogs.

In 2010, we got our current (living) dog. She’s a border collie/beagle mix and is well behaved. The cats got along with her great. However, in January of this year, our dog went completely and suddenly blind. She started running into things and being afraid of the cats, since can’t see them.

This led to some TERRIBLE fights between the cats and the dog. Like, blood drawn, claws out fights. The cats are elderly - obviously - and the dog is elderly and disabled. I’m reluctant to give any of the animals up, because they would likely be passed up for adoption. My solution has been to isolate the cats - they have their own room downstairs with toys, their litter box, scratching posts, etc. I go in there to feed them, water them and play with them multiple times a day, when I can. But they are clearly stressed out in there.

The cats could conceivably live another 5 years. Does anybody have a better solution here?
