A little background, my family lives in a apartment that doesn't allow pets without a Dr recommendation, I have two older daughters who love animals but we never "needed" one, they are 17 and 14. My son who just turned 8 is going through a pretty big change.
My wife and I decided to home school our son for 3rd grade, he made it through k-2nd but it was a struggle, he's a smart kid who fit in decently with his classmates but wasn't living up to his potential academically, he is slightly hyper if I'm being honest and that was a problem for teachers who had 20+ other students in the class to deal with.
He's adapted well to the work and the freelance schedule but I can tell something is missing, he seems lonely, and not in a people kind of way, his sisters pay him ample attention (as much as teenagers can) and his mother and I try our best to engage in activities that aren't school related but it seems like he's missing something.
How can we approach a doctor with this and convince them this is what I think my child needs? Something he is responsible for and loves and loves him back unconditionally (if this is not a successful solution we would never abandon a member of the family btw).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
Signed a dad.
