Xray of pins in a dogs stomach

Many years ago, our young children were assigned a Christmas craft in school. They made a tree decoration consisting of a Styrofoam ball with about 30 mini- marshmallows stuck into it with common pins. (among other things)

Several years later while decorating our tree we noticed our sneaky dog was nowhere to be found. A quick search found him in another room holding the Styrofoam ball in his paws while happily sucking the marshmallows straight down his throat. When I noticed about twenty-five pins were missing an emergency trip to the animal hospital ensued.

Fortunately, after an expensive operation and a long convalescence our dog lived to scrounge food for many more years.

The moral of the story is: never combine food and pins to make decorations. It could mean the very painful death of a beloved family pet.
