Hi all! I'm hoping some of you lovely people can give me some cat advice, as my partner and I are seriously frustrated with the current situation!
Background: I've had Aurora (my rescue cat) for 5 years. I've been with my partner for 2 of those years. While single, I let Aurora have the run of the house even at night, often leaving my bedroom door open so she can come in and out. My partner though, she doesn't like cats in the bedroom for various reasons, so our room is now forbidden to Aurora.
Problem: Unfortunately Aurora has gotten too used to having her way, and will incessantly scratch/claw/bang on our bedroom door at night, in order to get food, attention, etcetera. I feed her in the morning and in the evening, but that doesn't stop her from trying to get more food (she's supposed to be on a diet). We have tried many things to get her to stop, including:
- Spraying with water. She just comes back 2 minutes later and resumes scratching
- Locking her in another room at night. She raps on that door to get out and wakes us/our housemates up.
- Building a freaking barrier out of couch cushions in front of our door (yeah, running out of ideas). She just breaks through.
We need a way to prevent her from scratching on our door at night!
Open to any ideas, and most grateful. Thanks in advance!
