Recently my mother came to live with me, I stayed with her at her old house for about a month and noticed her cat never ever came out from her room and rarely came out from hiding under her dresser or bed. She explained to me that he had been like this ever since they adopted him (they adopted him as an adult) I do believe he's about three years old.
we had a relatively uneventful trip across the country from southern California to Central Florida without any serious issue with the cat except for a few bathroom mishaps, but since coming to my home the cat is exhibiting the exact same behavior. it is a little bit more understanding in my home as I have another cat, and two dogs so there's probably a cacophony of smells to be afraid of.
is this just his personality or is there something I'm not doing to accommodate his needs and make him feel comfortable to come out of his den? I should add that my dogs are very curious but otherwise friendly and my other cat has sought him out and attempted to bring him out of hiding to play without avail.
