Dog had disc prolapse won't take medicine

On Wednesday I picked up my dog and he got extreme pain for a few minutes Went to the hospital, he has a disc prolapse in the neck. He spent 3 days there and now he is back but he only got a little bit better. He can walk and yesterday he ate something for the first time but I am in worry. My biggest problem right now is that he doesn't want his medicine. He got painkillers, muscle relaxants and anti-inflammatories. Yesterday I tried to give it to him without success. Today I tried to force it and he bit me, spit it out and then he got the same pain like on Wednesday. I can't put it into food because he doesn't eat any food I give him.

He needs to rest but he also hurts himself more when I try to give the medicine. I see no chance to give him any of the pills. He also is now scared of me and I feel like he hates me because it happened when I picked him up. He still follows me around though.

I am scared that he has a bad case of it and it won't heal... The pet doctors have all been useless so far and can't even tell me a prognosis, they just say he needs to rest his neck and take his pills. Any advice on what I should do? Was there someone here in a similar situation?
